When starting a new workout program regardless of whether it is p90x or something else like just walking it is important to keep track of your workouts. Keeping track of your workouts is more than just recording how many reps of the exercise you did. While that is important to record so you can keep track of your progress it is only one small part of what you need to track. The first thing you need to track in your workouts is the p90x calories burned per workout. The second item you need to track is the actual workouts, this means recording how many reps of each exercise you do during the session. This helps with keeping on track for improving your workouts over time and is great for seeing how far you have come at the end of the program. The third and final item that you need to track is the diet. The tracking of the diet is the most important part of your workout sheets. This will help make sure you are eating enough to provide fuel that your body will need to complete the workouts.
Keeping track of your workouts:
My advice is to find a set of spreadsheets or use the workout sheets that come with p90x for tracking your actual workouts. Nothing beats the pen and paper method of tracking your workouts. These logs can then be entered in to a computer later for long term tracking. Beachbody has the workout sheets in their download section that you can print out and use during your sessions. Personally I like these sheets; they actually tell you what equipment you should be using for the workouts and what diet you should be following.

Calorie and Food Tracking:
Tracking your diet and calorie intake daily is a challenging task to maintain. Fortunately that task is made easier through technology. There are plenty of apps out there that you can add to your cell phone that makes this process easier. However, the best app I have seen is my fitness pal. This app will allow you to keep track of the foods you eat daily and allows you to scan barcodes of the food you eat to enter the information in quickly. This will record the serving sizes and the nutritional information daily. This makes it super easy to keep track of your daily intake. The app also allows you to keep track of your weight daily to keep you up to date on your weight loss progress. The best part of this app is that it is free.
